This is the largest tool holder that Millers Falls sold, 7 1/2″ long. It’s quite heavy, almost feels too heavy. I certainly wouldn’t want to be using a screwdriver or a chisel that weighs almost a pound for any length of time. Although, the extra mass might come in handy for some tasks.

It’s a beautiful and well-made tool. The cocobolo handle is excellent. Whoever owned it before me stuck a snapped-off piece of triangular file in the handle as well. It fits in the handle and it fits in the chuck. Says the 1904 catalog:

The jaws will hold not only the tools contained in the hollow handle but all other things from a fine awl to a mill-file. No other tool handle in the market will do this.

It seems that by 1938, they were no longer offering this one, only the No. 1 (6″), and No. 4 (6 1/4″). The next chronological catalog I have is 1949 and it doesn’t contain any tool holders at all.

I love what the 1904 catalog also says:

The tools are made from steel of the highest grade, tempered by men of great experience
