Despite its silly looks, the Screwball Ratchet Driver actually pretty nice to use.
It was invented by Lloyd Smith in the 70’s, and sold by his company, S/V Tool Co., out of Kansas. Fiskars bought S/V in the 80’s. I don’t think it’s made anymore. I can’t find it, at least.
On the ones I own, the “retainer ring” is too loose and rotates as you’re using the tool, causing the bits to fall out. But I don’t mind, I don’t need to store bits in it.
I read somewhere once about a guy that gave one to his mother, who was suffering from arthritis. It was perfect for her, she could continue to turn screws. That’s pretty cool.
