Came to me pretty dirty. Sometimes that’s good, keeps the rust away. Transitional planes are nice because it can be quick to get them working, especially a jack. Sometimes you see these selling for inflated prices, due to people thinking that they are older than metal planes, as the name “transitional” might suggest. They were introduced after metal planes, presumably for the people that were used to wooden planes and wouldn’t give their money to Stanley for the new metal things they were selling. As soon as those stalwarts came to rely on the  depth and lateral adjustment mechanisms, they’d be far more likely to give a metal plane a go.

Made from 1869-1917, 15″ long, 2 1/8″ wide. Beech wood.
