These pliers came in many different sizes and configurations. And the compound joints used on these pliers were used on many different tools. They really ran with that design Bernard came up with.
William Bernard sold the patent for his parallel-action pliers to the William Schollhorn Co., eventually becoming a partner in the company. Sargent bought Schollhorn in 1948, and are still around in name. Rostra Tools bought Sargent in 1987, and the current owners, Oetiker, bought Rostra in 2015. The parallel-joint pliers are still made, and are quite expensive, I think, at about $50.
I also have what looks like a knock-off with some extra features. It has three levels of latching when closing the jaws, the fourth click releases the latch and you can close them all the way. It also has a protective guard or something, maybe a skin-saver. The only marking on the tool is ABBOTT, where BERNARD and SARGENT normally is, on the handles. Feels nicely made. Can’t find any information about it or the brand.
